Born in 1919 just a stone's throw from King's Cross Station, Victor Gregg grows up in poverty. After the disappearance of his father, only the courage of this mother and grandmother, and the strenght of their close-knit community, hold the family together. Whether scavenging for leftovers at Covent Garden market or nicking coal from the railway depot, young Vic is determined to look after his mother. Leaving school at fourteen, Vic navigates the rough and tumble of inner-city London- from bookies' runners to market-stall holders, and from kindly and crooked coppers to gangland hardmen. King's Cross Kid is an intimate and moving portrait os one young man's fight for survival in a city soon to be changed forever by the Blitz.
